Author was a spitfire pilot shot down on May 2, 1943. He parachuted into the sea 18km from land, 100km southwest of Darwin in the Fogg Bay area. He reached the shore in a dinghy. There commenced a 15 day struggle to return to Strauss airbase through inhospitable, croc infested country.
